The National Institute of Watersports (NIWS) has been setup by
the Ministry of Tourism as an ‘apex’ institute of training, education,
consultancy and research to usher in an era of leisure-watersporting in
the country.
This is the first and only Institute in India for all human resource
activities in the domain of leisure watersporting. It also undertakes
research and consultancy assignments and advices the govt. agencies,
defence establishments, pvt. Establishments etc. on watersporting. Main
areas of training are life saving techniques, boat handling, sailing,
windsurfing, water skiing, SCUBA diving, river rafting, kayaking etc.
Since inception, over 20 courses have been developed for watersport
professionals, managers and the tourists, particularly those visiting Goa
and safety and rescue operators.
The Institute is envisaged to function as a model for similar
initiatives/ entrepreneurs with regard to faculty and staff, training
infrastructure etc. Plans are being conceived to expand its activities to
encompass other adventure forms so as to transform itself into an
‘Institute of Adventure Sports ’.
Presently, Institute has requirement for a post of Instructor
(Watersports) as per following:
Post : Instructor (Watersports) – 01 nos.
Mode of appointment: Transfer on deputation initially for
two years.
Pay Band : Rs. 9300-34800/-
Grade Pay : Rs.4600/-
Educational Qualification:
1) Officers of Central/State Governments or Public
Sector/Autonomous Organizations/ College/ Universities/
Educational Institutes:

a) Holding analogous post OR
b) Holding post in the pay scale of Rs.5500-9000 (pre revised) with 3
years regular service in the grade. OR
c) Holding post in the pay scale of Rs.5000-8000 (Pre revised) with 6
years regular service in the grade.
2) Minimum three years of experience in training, of which, at least
one year should be in Water Sports.
Desirable Qualification:
i) Good oral & written communication in English and Hindi.
ii) Proficiency in computer operations
iii) Proven record of training in leisure-based watersports.
