International Centre for Community Forestry (ICCF), a centre of excellence of Indian Institute of Forest Management (an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India) is involved in community forestry related research, extension, training and skill development, documentation and networking. The centre was established in the year 2000 and since then it has been in the forefront of addressing Community Forestry issues at National and International levels. It has established 15 fields experimental and intervention sites across central and eastern India to conduct research, promote community forestry network and the development of the region, addressing community forestry policy aspect and other issues like sustainable harvesting of Non Timber Forest Produces (NTFPs), micro credit, value addition and processing, microenterprise development, marketing through gatherer-trader network, etc. The centre has carried out international, national and community level workshop trainings, mass campaigns on the current issues of CF. The centre have four broad work themes viz: (i) Research and Documentation; (ii) Training and capacity building of the stakeholders; (iii) Extension activities and direct intervension at the filed sites of ICCF and; (iv) Netwroking with the stakeholders of CF. To further expand its activity areas, the Centre invites applications for the Short Term Research Fellows (03 Positions) for 6 months.

1.    Short Term Research Fellowship:

The Short Term Research Fellowship (STRF) is a regular programme of ICCF which encourages talented young researchers to involve in quality research of ICCF’s thematic areas. The Fellowships are for the period of six months (non-extendable) and provides opportunity to young professionals interested in research, extension and documentation work, to contribute in the field of community forestry through the Centre.

1.1. Eligibility:
The interested candidate must have a Post Graduate Degree/Diploma from a recognized Indian university/institute in any stream related to the subject area related to NRM and allied bio-sciences.  (Mentioned in annex: 1)

1.2. Desirable:

Preference will be given to those who have work experience in community forestry and have demonstrated credentials in research and publications.

1.3. Amount of Fellowship:

The selected researchers will be offered a fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand Only) per month for a period of six months and a Contingency grant of Rs. 7000/- (Rupees seven Thousand Only). Travel Allowance for the field work and research related activities will be provided as per IIFM-ICCF norms.

2.    Application Procedure:

Candidates interested in the STRF can apply in the prescribed Application Form available from ICCF or can be downloaded from IIFM’s website: www.iifm.ac.in.

Along with the application form the candidate must send a covering application letter on a plain paper, their latest CV, 2 reference letter from their Professors/supervisors and a brief Research Proposal which they will pursue during their fellowship period. The research proposal should be in the subject area mentioned in annex 1. A guideline for the Research Proposal is given in annex 2. The subject area and the research proposal guideline can be downloaded from IIFM’s website.

3.    Submission of Application:

The application for the short term research fellowship is accepted throughout the academic year. The Duly Filled Application Form along with application letter, CV, 2 reference letters and brief Research Proposal should reach the following address by post or email. Incomplete applications in any form will be rejected without consideration.

4.    Selection Procedure:

Proposal Review Committee meeting is conducted two times a year to shortlist deserving proposals. The short listed candidates are called to give a presentation of their proposal. On the basis of their merit and presentation 02 -03 candidates will be provided the fellowship at a time.

5.    Output of the Short Term Research Fellowship:
1.    The researcher will have to submit one Final Research Proposal (in 3 copies) and will have to make a presentation on the research proposal about its objectives, methodology, expected outcome of the research and how communities can gains from the outcome of the research.
2.    The Researcher should publish research journal articles from its research in collaboration with Coordinator, ICCF in reputed International and National Journal
3.    The researcher will submit an interim report within 2 months of the inception of the research
4.    The researcher must submit monthly progress report of the research the Coordinator, ICCF
5.    The researcher has to submit the final report in three copies after incorporating the suggested comments at the end of the sixth month of research.
Note:    
1.    Only selected research proposals will be intimated.
2.    Rejected proposals and other documents shall not be retuned.
3.    The STRF is a contractual and temporary position and IIFM will not accept any claims for permanent position.
4.    The project is strictly for a period of six months and all the concern research document/report/publication should be completed and submitted to the coordinator, ICCF within the given timeframe.
