Subject: - Indo-French Social Scientists Exchange under Indo-French Educational Exchange Programme for the calendar year 2011.


Sir/Madam,
The Indo-French Social Scientists Exchange Programme has a provision for the
deputation of University/Institution/College teachers in the discipline of humanities and Social Sciences to carry out research in identified areas. Under this programme, the University Grants Commission provides to and fro air-fare to the selected teachers and the French side provides maintenance allowances up to 1800 Euros per month. The Scholar would have to meet all expenses on boarding, lodging and local transport from out of the above mentioned maintenance allowances. The University Grants Commission has identified the following areas of research, i.e., Economics, Political Studies, Linguistics, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Cognitive Sciences. Besides these priority areas, other fields are also open for joint or individual research. The duration of the award is for one (01) month. The applicant must be a permanent teacher.

The applicants are advised to establish prior contact with the French expert of
their subjects either through visiting websites of French Universities or through
the consultation of French Information Centre/French Embassy, New Delhi, Institute Francaise de Pondicherry, Pondicherry. Applicants who have already\established their contact with the subject expert in the French University/Institution may endorse the letter of consent. On their selection under the programme they may undergo crash course for French language in India which will better their interaction while in France.

Only those Universities/Institutions which are recognized by UGC under Section 2 (f) & 12 (B) of UGC Act 1956 may nominate two teachers under the programme. The application received directly from the teacher/scholar will not be entertained. Applicants who do not hold Ph.D. Degree need not apply under the programme. The application form for Social Scientists Exchange Programme under Indo-French EEP for the year, 2011 may be downloaded from UGC website www.ugc.ac.in. Three copies of the bio-data and detailed work plan may be sent to the Commission in the enclosed proforma (Annexure) through proper channel addressed to The Section Officer (IC-I), Room No. 504, University Grants Commission, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi – 110 002 latest by 20th September, 2010.

It may, further, be noted that the University/Institute would be required to treat the selected scholars on duty and pay him/her salary and other admissible allowances during the tenure of the award as per the University/Institute rules. This may, please be brought to the notice of all the concerned University/Departments and also to the affiliated colleges.
