UGC NET ExamThe UGC (University Grants Commission) has a bureau called National Educational Testing Bureau which performs NET (National Eligibility Test) to verify eligibility of lectureship and to award JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) to Indian nationals. It also ensures minimum research and teaching profession standards. The Test is performed in subjects like Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, Environmental Sciences, Forensic Science, Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences.
For students who wanted to pursue research, the program called JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) is available. It’s available for 5 years to completion of definite conditions. UGC owed fellowships of the students who succeed the JRF test. The JRFs are given to the students are eligible for NET lectureship. The JRF test is being taken since 1984. In 1988, the Government of India assigned the conducting task of lectureship eligibility test to UGC. Accordingly, UGC performed first National Eligibility Test which was common for both Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship, in two parts on December 1989 and March, 1990 respectively.
NET Schedule
NET is conducted by UGC twice a year, generally in June and December. The announcements are published in March and September respectively for June and December exams, in Employment News, the weekly journal.
NET Results
The results of June exam are stated usually in October and for December exam, the results are generally declared in April. The results are published generally in the Employment News. You can also visit the UGC website for it.
NET Science Subjects
The NET exam for main Science Subjects like Earth Atmospheric Ocean & Planetary Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences is taken together with the CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), New Delhi.
Application Forms Submission
The announcement is available in the weekly, Employment News, usually in March and September. You can also download it from the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in.
