The Islamic University of Science and Technology was established by an Act of the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly in November 2005. The Chancellor of the University is the Chief Minister, ex officio of the State, and its Board is the Board of Directors, ex officio, of the J&K Muslim Wakf Board. The apex executive authority of the University is its Executive Council, chaired by the Vice Chancellor. Its flat administrative structure comprises of four key executive departments consisting of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, the Office of the Finance Officer, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Department of Estates. These units report directly to the Vice Chancellor.
