A committee consisting of IIT and IISc coordinate the test on behalf of Govt of India, Dept. of Education and DATE which make up the National Coordinating Board.
Students are eligible for scholarships who qualify through the GATE exam. Gate is compulsory in some institutions. Candidates who qualify GATE are also eligible for Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR sponsored Projects and laboratories. Certain government posts require the candidate to have a GATE qualification for the post of Scientist and/or Engineer.
Students can apply for the gate in two ways, viz. Online and Offline. The fees for online application are eight hundred for General and OBC candidates and Rs.
