STAFF SELECTION COMMISSION The Staff Selection Commission is the former Subordinate Services Commission. It is headquartered at New Delhi. It was formed to make recruitment to various Group C non-technical posts in the various ministries or departments of the Government of India. Now the Staff Selection Commission also makes the recruitments to all Group B posts in the pay scale of 9300 rupees to 34800 with a grade pay of 42000 rupees.
The Staff Selection Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training. It comprises of Chairman, two members, and a Secretary-cum-controller of examinations. The controller of examinations is appointed on such conditions as may be prescribed by the central government from time to time. The commission is supported by various officers and staff. It is also supported by regional offices established at various locations. All the examinations and administrative matters are submitted to the chairman through the two members.
Centers and sub-centers of the Staff Selection Commission are situated in different parts of the country for the smooth conduction of exams. The commission has seven regional offices at Allahabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkatta, Guwahati, Chennai and Bangalore. It also has two sub-regional offices at Raipur and Chandigarh. Each regional office of the commission is headed by a regional director and each sub-regional office is directed by a deputy director.
The commission conducts examinations and interviews for recruitment to the posts within its purview. These examinations will be held at different centres and successful candidates will be posted. The commission also holds open competitive examinations for some particular posts like lower division clerks in various ministries or departments. The commission also conducts departmental examinations for promotions to some particular posts. The commission conducts typewriting tests periodically in English and Hindi. The commission will perform more functions as may be entrusted to it by the Central Government of India.
